Jessica Shields is a licensed professional counselor and nationally-certified counselor with over 16 years of helping experience. She opened MindShields Family Counseling to help individuals with their own goals, wants, and needs. Jessica believes that connection and awareness are powerful tools in therapy, and that hope and purpose are possible in almost any situation.
Specializing in helping children, teens, and their parents, Jessica helps clients identify the obstacles that keep them from improvement and action, ultimately believing that we are all born with dreams and purpose. Jessica has worked in the public school setting, in private practice, and in community mental health. She is a parent, a wife, a friend, and a helper.
Jessica studied Childhood Education during her undergraduate years and later went on to earn both a Master’s degree and an Education Specialist degree. Jessica has presented children’s intervention programs to colleagues and groups on several occasions.
In 2015, Jessica was named the Alabama School Counseling Association’s Middle School Counselor of the Year, and in 2019, Jessica was awarded with the Alabama Counseling Association’s highest honor: Outstanding Practitioner of the Year.
